A Touch of Light at Nuit Blanche

Scotiabank Nuit Blanche is upon us! Be sure to stop by the Canadian Music Centre this Saturday as we premiere our latest responsive work titled A Touch of Light.

This piece needs to be seen and heard in person and the intimate performance space of the Canadian Music Centre -one of Toronto’s best-kept secrets- is the perfect venue. Live piano performance will run from 7pm to 7am.

Scotiabank Nuit Blanche 2013 – coming up!

LeuWebb Projects is pleased to announce that we will be participating once again in Scotiabank Nuit Blanche, this time in partnership with the Canadian Music Centre.

Our project, A Touch Of Light, explores the sensual intersection of sound and sight, and acts as a visual rendition of the live performances taking place at the Canadian Music Centre during the night of Nuit Blanche.

Tech team masterminds Jeff Lee and Omar Khan are hard at work helping put together custom hardware controllers and breaking down the coding necessary to make all of it work.

Art Now, Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition

LeuWebb Projects will be unveiling ‘Seaclash’ this weekend at Nathan Philips Square as part of Art Now at this year’s Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. The installation plays on the idea of “art relief” – relief through art, relief from the art world, or relief in the context of an outdoor art show.

Come for the great art market and check out Ai Wei Wei’s amazing ‘Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads’ too!

Night Market Fun (part 1)

Setting up LeuWebb’s ‘Snacks on Wax’ foodcart made its debut last night at The Stop’s Night Market. Paired on the first night of the event with Rose & Sons, the cart of found sounds and objects brought a smile to the faces of hungry patrons. The second night of the event pairs Paulette’s with the cart to serve up tasty pastries.

Special thanks to Ring Audio and June Records for their assistance in providing materials for ‘Snacks on Wax’.

This remarkable event is now in its second year and will be taking place in Toronto in the great outdoors behind Honest Ed’s, June 18th and 19th, 2013.

Our cart, titled ‘Snacks On Wax’ will be paired with two different chef teams over the course of the event’s two nights.

Making and Shaking

LeuWebb Projects is working with the Ontario Crafts Council once again in creating a site specific installation for their annual Maker Shaker Fundraising event.

We’re keeping the piece under wraps for now, but below is a detail pic of some of the materials we’re working with.

Come Up To My Room 10 Year Anniversary

LeuWebb Projects were featured in Andrew Sardone’s lovely article about Come Up To My Room’s 10 Year Anniversary (that’s us in the upper right of the pic above).

Here’s an excerpt (below) from the NOW Magazine article. See the full article here.

2011: Leu Webb (Christine Leu & Alan Webb)

Originally we were hoping to do up one of the private rooms with something immersive and intimate, but we were offered the Ballroom, where the Love Design Party would be happening, instead. With Alan’s background as part of the wabi collective producing electronic music events, it was actually not a bad fit.

We centred on the idea of a cloud pulsating with the music of the party like lightning flashing in a summer sky. To create the cloud, we used a variety of weather balloons that were up to 5 feet in diameter and worked with our friends Jeff Lee and Omar Khan to install lighting inside them that would react to the music. We also wanted to integrate the DJs with the installation, so we put them in the middle of the room to let the crowd swirl around.

Workplace Affairs Opening

We’ve put together a show for this year’s Toronto Design Offsite Festival titled Workplace Affairs and are looking forward to the opening this coming Saturday.

Workplace Affairs is an exploration of the relationship of space to the creative process. The exhibition runs Saturday January 19 to Sunday January 27, 2013 at East of Keele.

Curated and photographed by LeuWebb Projects, the exhibition gives visitors a peek into the creative spaces of a selected group of local artists; examining artefacts of production and documenting the workspaces that enabled their creation.

Featuring the work and workplaces of Melissa Fisher, Patrick Svilans, Joy Charbonneau, Lizz Aston, Patrick Yeung, Clayton McMaster and Jyhling Lee.
