Unpacking the Stacks

Unpacking the Stacks is a photographic exhibition that examines the book as a vessel of culture, language and identity and searches for the book’s place in a fluid information landscape.

These six books are housed at the Don Mills branch but move freely within the wider library circulation system. The branch’s language collections have grown out of the needs of the surrounding Don Mills population, a series of communities that make up part of the city’s broader cultural mosaic.

The book also represents a moment in time, when an idea or point of view has been fixed through the act of printing. The computer mouse accesses a constant present, where information is no longer fixed, but ever changeable and malleable.
