Skulptursymposium, Denmark

LeuWebb Projects was recently invited to Denmark to participate in the Gaesteatelier Hollufgard’s Tilsynekomster International Sculpture Symposium 2015. The intensive 10 day forum provided lively discourse and a fertile environment to develop project ideas for site-based works that will be further gestated leading to installation within the grounds of Hollufgard in June, 2016.

An exhibition of the project sketches and models is on view at the Gaesteatelier through October, 2015.

Additional documentation of the symposium’s proceedings are now online.

Reflections on 125 years

LeuWebb Projects was commissioned by the Gladstone Hotel to create the inaugural installation for their Melody Bar’s new revitalization. Coinciding with the hotel’s 125 year anniversary, our piece “Reflections on Rotation” draws on the Gladstone’s rich history for its inspiration while suggesting portals to new possibilities and unforeseen outcomes.

The work will be in place for the next several months but the public unveiling “125 THEN/NOW/NEXT” takes place tomorrow!

While in the bar, just look up and you will see it…

All Night, Alright

We’re happy to finally be able to share the news that we’ll be presenting Melting Point, a new responsive landscape art work at this year’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche!

The installation will be at Toronto’s historic Fort York, in a zone curated by Magda Gonzalez-Mora.

We’re working with long time collaborators Jeff Lee and Omar Khan to put together this large scale piece that integrates light, sound and responsive technologies.

More details to follow…

Catching and releasing

In a short, three week period, we worked through an intensive process of ideation, collaboration, research, procurement, fabrication and installation, with the end results being unveiled at the Adjacent Possibilities opening event, Tuesday, August 26th.

The resultant project was undeniably enriched by the dialogue and engagement with the MaRS Studio Y fellows and our cleantech partner, Hydrostor. If you’re in Toronto, please stop by the MaRS building and have a look-see/listen/touch.

Art + Energy = Possibilities

LeuWebb Projects was recently invited to participate in the inaugural Adjacent Possibilities in art + energy project at the MaRS Discovery District. Facilitated through MaRS’s unique Studio Y program, the initiative pairs artist with clean energy innovators to develop representations of solutions to climate disruption.

We learned about the fascinating yet simple process to use compressed air to store energy (think balloons) from our entrepreneurial counterpart, Hydrostor, and engaged with fellow participants Aaron Li Hill and Morgan Solar, along with MakeLab and MNB Networks. Installations will be unveiled at MaRS on the evening of August 26th!

Cascadia at Grow Op

LeuWebb Projects will be presenting Cascadia, a sound-based installation at Grow Op: Exploring landscape and place, a four-day event that celebrates innovative ideas and conceptual responses to landscape and place across a broad range of creative practices.

Embedded into the Gladstone Hotel and its environs, from adventitious niches to feature rooms, Grow Op 2014 presents work that explores new territories. The projects symbiotically connect to tell stories about water, memory, urbanism, natural process, public space, everyday materiality, hunting, urbanism and rural food economies.

Opening reception is Friday, April 25, 2014,  7pm – 10pm. Be there and listen for Cascadia, washing down the hotel’s central staircase!

Special thanks to Bay Bloor Radio.

Scotiabank Nuit Blanche 2013 – coming up!

LeuWebb Projects is pleased to announce that we will be participating once again in Scotiabank Nuit Blanche, this time in partnership with the Canadian Music Centre.

Our project, A Touch Of Light, explores the sensual intersection of sound and sight, and acts as a visual rendition of the live performances taking place at the Canadian Music Centre during the night of Nuit Blanche.

Tech team masterminds Jeff Lee and Omar Khan are hard at work helping put together custom hardware controllers and breaking down the coding necessary to make all of it work.
